Major cracks in EU’s gas policy, auditors warn

There are major holes in the EU’s energy security policy, the bloc’s budget watchdog said on Monday, with no way of assessing the impact of several emergency measures introduced in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

There remain serious obstacles to the EU’s attempts to fully wean itself off Russian gas supplies and become self-sufficient, the Luxembourg-based European Court of Auditors (ECA) said. These include an increasing dependence on liquified natural gas (LNG) imports, the need to decarbonise gas consumption and divisions among member states.
